The Allergy & Asthma Center's
Pollen Program

Pollen Counter

Pollen is sampled twice per week from the roof of Grand Junction's Allergy & Asthma clinic at 1120 Wellington Avenue in Grand Junction, Colorado.

We use a rotorod style sampling system that collects pollen and mold on two small spinning glass rods.

We stain and examine the contents under our microscope. By knowing the speed that the rods spin, the amount of time they have been spinning and their surface area, the concentration of pollen and mold in the ambient air can be calculated.
